MANITOBA vs. SASKATCHEWAN:

…Inter-Provincial preparation, June 20, 2010

On a weekend plagued by rain, and soggy fields [and mosquitoes] Manitoba and Saskatchewan managed to play a 45-over cricket match at Assiniboine Park in preparation for the upcoming Inter-provincial tournament in late July.

Batting first Manitoba scored 256 for 5 in 45 overs with two batsmen Zeeshan Siddiqui (64), and Suresh Jayaraman (51) reaching half centuries on a field made heavy by rain.

In reply Saskatchewan found the Manitoba bowling difficult to cope with and could only muster 84 off 30 overs.

OUTDOOR CRICKET SEASON BEGINS: TRIAL, LEAGUE AND FRIENDLY GAMES MARK BEGINNING

In better than average temperatures and under cloudless skies the outdoor cricket season officially got underway May 15, 16 at the Assiniboine Park cricket field.

Two trial games were held in preparation for the upcoming Inter- provincial tournament, the dates of which are yet to be finalized. Both trials produced some fine performances: both games were keenly contested.

On Sunday two officially sanctioned League games in the First and Second Divisions got underway with Kingz X1 vs. AICC [South Ground] and Lions 2 vs. MCA U-19 [North] respectively. Kingz XI and MCA U-19 emerged victorious.

On Saturday two “friendlies” were played by clubs in the local leagues: Pakistan vs. Seahawks and Cosmos vs. Cosmos Lancers.

After the winter and indoor season everyone was filled with enthusiasm and ready to play.
