Please give your donations to your Club Captains who will then forward the total amount for the club to the Cricket Office. Manitoba Cricket Association Inc. 2010 INDOOR SIX-A-SIDE COMPETITION BEGINS The 2010 Six-a-Side Indoor Competition will kick off the cricket year this weekend [Jan 16/17] with two (2) games on Saturday and three (3) games on Sunday, all being played at Wellington School gymnasium.
A total of 16 teams have registered for this competition: nine teams vying
for honors in Division 1 and seven teams in Division 2. As in the past
the competition promises to be an exciting one. Anyone who has an interest
in cricket is welcome to see the games. MANITOBA JUNIOR IN U-19 CRICKET WORLD CUP Harpreet Manes Singh a junior player in the Manitoba Cricket Association local leagues is now in New Zealand with the Canadian National Cricket Team to take part in the U-19 Cricket World Cup that takes place from January 15 to January 30, 2010. Harpreet is a medium/fast left-arm bowler and hard hitting middle order batsman who plays for Juniors CC locally. We wish Harpreet all the best for a very productive and successful tournament. [Click here for Groups and Fixtures] MCA PLAYER IN CANADIAN SQUAD – Canada’s Under 19 squad will travel to St. Kitts, West Indies on Friday December 11, 2009 to take on the West Indies and St. Kitts in four warm-up matches and pre-tournament training prior to participating in the 2010 ICC Under 19 World Cup in New Zealand in January, 2010. TREVOR MANOOSINGH and VASU SHAH of the Manitoba Cricket Association Local League have been selected to represent Canada in the Under-15, 2009 Americas Championship to be held in New York, USA from August 16 to August 23. MCA extends CONGRATULATIONS and good wishes to these youngsters in this tournament.Local Umpire in “Canada v Kenya” Series
Karran Bayney of Winnipeg, Manitoba has been appointed to stand in the upcoming intercontinental cup match [Aug 14 – 17] and the ODIs [Aug 19 – 23] between Canada and Kenya to be played at King City, Ontario. MCA TO HOLD 19TH JUNIOR SUMMER CAMP
As in the past the Manitoba Cricket Association will hold a summer camp for juniors ages 5 to 18 at Assiniboine Park cricket field. The dates are August 24 to August 28. The morning activities will consist of coaching, scoring, umpiring, player skills development and strategies in batting, bowling, and fielding. In the afternoon younger participants will gain actual game experience at the Kanga Ball level while more advanced participants will engage in regulation cricket. The coaches, umpires and other officials try to create a friendly atmosphere for everyone where learning about cricket can take place while having fun.Anyone can attend. MCA TO HOLD SECOND PROVINCIAL TRIALS 2009 MCA PERMISSION TO PLAY PLAYERS LIST SUMMER LEAGUE STATISTICS B.C TO HOST 2009 INTER PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT At its most recent meeting Cricket Canada Executive Committee approved the budget and hosting provisions for the 2009 Inter Provincial Tournament. The event will be held in Vancouver, B.C. from Monday, August 10, 2009 to Friday, August 14, 2009 and while the precise number of teams is not yet finalized, between 6 and 8 teams will be competing. On Saturday, August 15, 2009 there will be an All Star game. The format will be ‘round robin’ with ODI rules. The last Inter Provincial Tournament, won by Quebec used a Twenty/20 format. It was held in Ontario in May, 2008. MCA announces Under-25 Team for Sunrise Series For the second successive year Manitoba and Saskatchewan will engage in the Sunrise Series to be played in Regina, May 16 – 18, 2009. BRANDON TEAM to participate in SUMMER LEAGUE Cricket in Brandon is being revived with the inclusion of the Brandon Cricket Team in Division 2 of the MCA Summer League. Until they acquire a home facility the team will play a limited schedule of games in Winnipeg. MCA/WESTMAN indoor TRIANGULAR TOURNAMENT The Taverners Cricket club recently won the MCA/Westman Indoor Triangular Tournament played in Brandon on April 18, 2009. Other teams taking part were Westman and Brandon. Brandon Team was second. Best batsman was Paul Ziesmann with 79 runs and best bowlers were Sid Roberts and Naseer Malik with 7 wickets each. HIGH SCHOOL CRICKET… Sisler High School won the 2009 Indoor Kanga Ball High School Championship played at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and Wellington School on April 25. Six teams participated. Maples Collegiate placed second. SIXTEEN (16) TEAMS … ATTEND Sixteen teams were represented at the Second League Competition Meeting held at Burton Cummings Community Centre on April 18. Excitement among the teams is running high and the competitive spirit is beginning to show. As the indoor season winds down there's impatience to get outside. Eight teams - [Bloomfield, All India, India XI, Cosmos, Patriots, Lions, Pakistan XI and WJCC] - will vie for honors in the A Division and six - [Cosmos Lancers, Bharat, MCA Under 19, Seahawks, Lions 2, and Kingz XI] - will do battle in the B Division. The recreational teams - Taverners and Phoenix - are expected to provide good opposition to teams from both divisions on Wednesdays. Plans are underway to make better use of the Waverley Community Centre facility and the regional facilities at Gimli and Virden. The date for the season opener is expected to be May 16. ICC takes 2011 World Cup from Pakistan DUBAI (AP): Cricket's world governing body has removed Pakistan as a co-host of the 2011 World Cup because of security fears. The decision comes after terrorists attacked the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore and killed six police officers and a driver on March 3. The International Cricket Council Board announced on Friday that the uncertain security situation in the country had forced it to take the decision. Pakistan was due to co-host the event with India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Four teams qualify for 2011 World Cup Canada has earned a berth in the 2011 Cricket World Cup despite losing by six wickets to the Netherlands at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier on Friday. Canada has made three previous visits to the cricket World Cup (1979, 2003 and 2007), exiting in the first round each time while notching just one career win.
