Most memorable game in Winnipeg: I played for East Kildonan vs Rams. 148 n.o.

Best all time batsman: Brian Lara.

Best all time bowler: Shane Warne

Tariq Mian

Major teams: Crescent Sports Club. Pakistan Cricket Club. Seahawks.

I started playing cricket 28 years ago in Winnipeg.

My most memorable game was back in 1997 when I scored 125 against Olympians. I also remember when I won the MVP award back in 1991.

My all time favorite batsman in Winnipeg is Garvin. My all time favorite bowler in Winnipeg is Qamar.

My predictions for this year’s league are Cosmos in premier, Crescent Stars in div 1 and Five Rivers in div 2.

Saqib Shahzad

Major Teams: Crescent Hawks, Crescent Stars

Left hand Batsman.
Right Arm spin Bowler.

I started playing at the age of about 2 to 3 years old and competitive at the age of 6 in U.A.E.

My favorite shots are the Straight drive and the Leg glance.

The bowler I found most challenging in Winnipeg is Faraz.

The batsman I found most challenging to bowl against in Winnipeg is Zeeshan Siddiqui. He possess great temperament and an immaculate technique. Though the quality that makes him outclass the other batsmen in Winnipeg is his hard work to maintain a high standard of fitness. Jatinder (Sunny) Matharu too would be worthy mention in this category.

The most memorable moment/game I played in Winnipeg is the t20 match against Winnipeg Warriors where I was part of a record opening partnership of 241 runs with Muhammad Farooq where both of us got to our maiden Centuries. It was really special as runs had dried up in the previous 3 games and I had a point to prove to myself that I had the goods to deliver.

As a captain of World XI, I would have these five international bowlers in my team: Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan, Shane Warne and Saeed Ajmal.
As a captain of World XI, I would have Saeed Anwar, Kumar Sangakara, Rahul Dravid, Damien Martyn and AB develliers as my five batsmen.

I predict that the team Crescent Hawks will win the league in my division in this season as we are on top with plenty of matches left unlike other teams.

I predict that Shahzada Khurram will score most runs in my league in this season. He’s been really consistent and intelligent with the way he’s batted so far.
At last I would like to Thank MCA for such a wonderful opportunity to not only play the game I love but also playing here has also helped me make a lot of friends in a very short term. Special thanks to Khurram Dar, Abdul Aziz, Daniyal Sajid and Zeeshan Siddiqui for guiding me and having faith in me.

Faraz Maqsud

Major teams: Crescent Hawks

My favorite bowler is Dani.

My favorite batsman is Amardeep.

The most memorable game was on 10th August 2014, in which I got 4th wicket within a 3 overs.

I predict that crescent Hawks will win this tournament in division 2.

I predict that Saqib Shahzad will score most runs in my league.

Amardeep Dhillon

Amardeep Dhillon
Right Hand Bat
Right Arm Offspin
Winnipeg Juniors Cricket Club

I started playing organized cricket at the age of 15 in Winnipeg.

If I was asked to play for another team it would be with Cosmos. Their preparation and organization for practice and games is an example for all teams in the province.

The most challenging bowler for me to play against is Jaggi Gurm from Winnipeg Blues. He’s always given me trouble and got me out a few times.

Vasu Shah for me is the hardest batsman to bowl to. He has all the shots in the book and always puts a price on his wicket, which makes it very difficult to get him out.

My most memorable game/moment playing in Winnipeg would be playing against Winnipeg Blues when I first joined Winnipeg Juniors. We won the game in the last over with 2 wickets remaining. That win gave us the confidence boost we needed to go on and win the division.

As captain of World XI, I would have Allan Donald, Brett Lee, Wasim Akram, Shane Warne and Muttiah Murlitharn as my five international bowlers.

As captain of the World XI, I would have Jaques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Kevin Pietersen and Mahela Jayawardena as my five international Batsmen.

Looking at how the season has been going so far, I believe it will be a very close finish between the Winnipeg Blues and Cosmos for the Premiere division.

Sunny from Winnipeg Blues has been batting very well this season and I predict he will be the best batsman of the Premiere division.

Monty Sharma has been quite sensational with the ball everywhere he has played this summer and I believe he will go on and pick up the most wickets in the Premiere division.

If I could change something about the summer league in Winnipeg, it would have to be the scheduling of T20’s. In provincial tournaments, we mostly play T20’s and the lack of experience hurts team Manitoba. If we wish to get the results we want from these provincial tournaments, we need to schedule more meaningful T20 matches.

Nasir Saif Bugti

Nasir Saif Bugti is an emerging all rounder for Crescent Cricket club.

Some quotes from Nasir:

If I was asked to play for a different team than my current team, I would play with: Crescent cricket club would be my first priority ever. I also like to play with Winnipeg Blues.

I played practice game with Kashif hayat it was really difficult for me to bowl against Kashif hayat batting

The most memorable moment of cricket in my life was when I got 7 wickets gave 27 runs.

I predict Winnipeg Blues will win the league.

If I was the captain of world XI I would pick:
Shoaib akhtar
Saeed ajmal
Umer gul
Dale stein
Shawn tait

Shahid afridi
Ab de viliers
Hashim Amla
Mahindra singh dhoni
Kevin peterson

I predict Kashif hayat and zeeshan siddique would be the highest scorer in the league.

I predict that zahid khan would be the highest wicket taker of the league.

Bowling style:- Right-arm fast-medium

Highest league match score:- 152 runs vs Cosmos Kings in 2013

I started playing Cricket at the age of 10 with my older brother, cousins and school friends. Our team name was “Mill Road cricket club 🙂 Even today when I go back home ( Bangladesh) , I manage to play a few games with Mill Road Cricket team.
If I was asked to play for a different club than my current team, I would play with ‘Cosmos Cricket Club’. I had great experience playing few games with Cosmos. Ray, Keith, Rawle, Sid, Neil, Trevor & others are such a great bunch to be around.
The bowler I found most challenging in Winnipeg is Sharjeel Siddiqui (Pakistan). Mostly @ indoor cricket leagues and Abdul Noor ( Bengal Tigers) at our team net practices.
The most memorable game I played in Winnipeg was on 9th September 2012, when we won against Lions to gain ‘League Champion’ title after 5 years. Little personal achievement as I scored 142 runs while chasing a total around 200. This match was special because in 2011, we had lost a crucial league game vs Lions and Bengal Tigers ended up as runners up team.
As the captain of World XI, I would have these five international batsmen in my team: -Saeed Anwar, Brian Lara, Nathan Astle, Mark Waugh, Viv Richards
I predict that the ‘Bengal Tigers’ will win the league in our division this season and ‘Sanjay Dash’ will score highest number of runs in 2014 league.
If I could change one thing in the Winnipeg cricket summer league, it would be … More games per team and a strong campaign to raise awareness about cricket in Winnipeg community.
